The Irresistible Riviera Blues

The late afternoon sun glistens on the beautiful blue water, as a boat glides past the iconic blue- and white-striped beach umbrellas of Nice on the Côte d’Azur (French Riviera).

A boat glides across the glistening blue water off the coast of Nice.

My travel tip: of course the Riviera is amazing for a road trip. Get the convertible and drive along from one end to the other! Stopping in Monaco is fairly easy especially to visit the Casino and dance around a bit! (parking wasn’t a problem). There’s a classic cinema in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, plenty of places to get a nice meal (any suggestions? I forgot the name of the places I ate at), catch a tennis match or simply cruise the villas. There’s also a cute boutique hotel, run by a fabulous woman in Cap d’Ail – I think it was the Hotel Normandy. Nice for a stop overnight or two, or just for a cup of coffee and have a chat with her.

If you like house exploring, get lost a bit on the streets that wind down to the coast, for a peek at some beautiful homes and parks. There’s even a little path between two homes, that leads down the cliffside toward the water! Oh, and one more thing: go to the tourist office across the street from the hotel for some nice luxury and yachting mags, which you’ll find in different languages.

If you’re energetic, they say you can go the whole Riviera directly along the coast by foot or bicycle. If you’ve tried it, let me know how it went!

Via Vienna

Via Vienna! Christmastime in the Neighborhood

This city is so irresistibly adorable! Yes, I took a hiatus from my previous blog, Via Vienna, but I’ve been missing it ever since, especially the responses and enjoyment you friends and followers shared. Whenever I walked around the city with my camera, I thought of you all and felt like I had a group of friends along with me. So I’d love to share some photos once in a while of my charming, adopted hometown of Vienna.

Even though the temperature is near freezing, the excitement of the shops and cafés with their decorations causes me to linger and take in their charm. Come back later as we warm up even more with mulled wine, hot punch and giant potatoes shared with good friends at the outdoor Christmas market! In the meantime, here are photos from around the block in my little neighborhood, der Josefstadt: the smallest district of Vienna but overflowing with the classic Viennese gemütlichkeit (coziness!).
